FIESTA FLASH December 2011 Kay King, Editor From the President I hope everyone enjoyed the wonderful Thanksgiving dinner that was put on at the Hall. I personally want to thank all those people from the preparers to the clean-up people who made it a success. John and Judy out did themselves this year with the cooking of the turkeys. The Fall Clean-up was done with the help of our faithful volunteers who cleaned the kitchen, laundry and trimmed the pine trees in the main entrance. I don’t have enough paper to list them but you all did a super job and it was very much appreciated. As the summer heat claimed its toll, our shuffleboard courts were among the casualties. Five of the courts cracked from the dry soil shifting to a point that they were deemed unplayable. We had to hire an expert in shuffleboard repair to saw cut and repair them before the big tournament in December. The courts have been cut and we are now waiting for them to cure and be recoated. The pool area has undergone some crack repair also and new mats were added at the ladders. With the end of Thanksgiving more residents will be arriving soon so it looks like the Park is getting into full swing. The Fiesta Village website has a new webmaster. Dave Haug is currently operating it. Dave has been working with Linda Hoefer in the transition period. Linda has done a terrific job with the website and her input has been invaluable. If you are selling or renting see Dave for details about advertising on the website. Dennis Grover, President
Kitchen Notes TO MAKE THE KITCHEN RUN BETTER. All events requiring use of the kitchen MUST have a chairperson or someone in charge. These people are responsible for the following: BEFORE YOU PURCHASE ANY ITEMS FOR YOUR EVENT, check the storage area for the item(s) you will need, and if it is not on the shelves, write it down on the clipboard or tell me what and when you will need it and I will purchase it. YOU MAY PURCHASE THE ITEMS YOURSELF for your event, but when you purchase your items be sure you check the expiration dates on all items you purchase. All food prepared for your event is your responsibility during and after the event. This includes leftovers. The kitchen is to be cleaned after your event. This includes all tables and countertops to be wiped off, mop the floor; if you use the grill or stove, they’re to be cleaned and the gas turned off. Cut or flatten all boxes and put them in the trash, take all trash out and put it in the garbage cans. Make sure the lights are turned off and lock the door. LET’S LEAVE THE KITCHEN CLEAN FOR THE NEXT EVENT. Bill Wilson, Vice President
Monthly Craft Sale Fiesta Village has a Craft Sale/Flea Market on the second Wednesday of every month beginning in December through March. We always have a Bake Sale table in the lobby on those sale days and people look forward to the tasty items the wonderful cooks of Fiesta Village contribute. Items that go best are cookies, bars, fruit and nut breads, sweet rolls and breads. We always have requests for sugar-free items, too. If you have a good sugar-free recipe consider bringing some. Please label your items and note if they contain nuts. Sales begin by 8 am, so try to have baked goods in fairly early. Then remember us in January, February and March. We thank you in advance. Marcella Flier and Marilyn Dengler, Co-Chairs
Quilt Sewing Bee On Wednesday, December 7, The Piecemakers Quilt Group will assemble the top for the raffle quilt for this season. We will start at 9 am and work till 3 pm if it takes that long. We will have a pot luck lunch at 11:50 am. Please plan to come and help in this Park project. You don’t have to be a quilter – as there are other jobs for non-sewers. If you plan to sew, please bring your sewing machine, scissors and either tan or gray thread, pins and a small ruler. You’re welcome to come for all day or as long as you can. The extra jobs include pressing and gophers. If you have any questions, please call Shirley Nygren at 581-2935.
Cookies for Christmas We need cookies for 162 containers for distribution. Deadline is December 13 at my home, 1735 Mission. Nancy Davis
Christmas Eve Program Christmas is time for families to get together to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Please plan to join our Fiesta Village family for our Christmas Eve Program at 7 pm. We plan for an evening of fun, reverence, and sharing the warmth of the season. As always, we conclude with a fellowship hour with lots of finger foods and Christmas goodies. So plan to attend and bring a favorite goodie to share. Note: In the spirit of the season, we thank all of you who will say “yes” when asked to assist with the program in some way, whether actively participating or being part of our necessary support group. We couldn’t do it without our wonderful Fiesta Village volunteers. Marilyn Dengler & Marcella Flier, Co-Chairs
The Memorial/Gazebo Fund Our Memorial Fund was created to provide an opportunity to give small donations to the Park in MEMORY of a loved one who has passed away or to HONOR a person or couple for a significant event like a special birthday or anniversary. There have been many large donations for designated major improvements given over the years. We are trying to increase this fund. You can help out with a donation of any amount, which will be acknowledged. A donation of $50 or more will get a beautiful metal plate with engraved name mounted in the showcase in the Gazebo. Donor envelopes are available at the lobby desk. Our sincere condolences to all who have lost loved ones this year. Kay King, Coordinator

We have a new Smoker, thanks to Phil Butts, who built this smoker this past summer and brought it down from Missouri to be used by the Park. I can smell the BBQ?
