Change in payment dates - We no longer will accept payments for "next" season prior to September 1 (unless you intend to be here before Sept 1 of course). After Sept 1, you may use the pay links on this site to pay by credit card; you may wait until you arrive and use the Drop Box; or you may mail your check to FV Wi-Fi, PO Box 6134, McAllen TX 78502. The new rates will be published on this site prior to Sept 1.
Membership Fees: Effective next season, membership fees will be optional. However, there will be two sets of rates, and rates for members will be substantially lower than for non-members. The original members of FV Wi-Fi paid for the initial Wi-Fi system installation through these fees (not knowing if it would work), and their rates will continue to be cheaper than non-members. Without our members, we would not have Wi-Fi in the Park, and we invite anyone to become a member by paying the $30 membership fee and enjoying the lower rates.
Self-service Wi-Fi We are pleased by the number of people who have been able to connect themselves this year to the Wi-Fi. We intend to continuously make the Wi-Fi more of a self-service. We will publish the new security code for next year on September 1. You will be given the new code at the time you make your payment for next season. If you pay by credit card or mail, we will email the security code to you. If you pay at the Drop Box, the security code will be provided on-site. a) In order for the system to be a self-service, you will need to come prepared to connect yourself to the Wi-Fi after you receive the new security code. It connects the same way you connect to any wireless source, so it is something you will need to learn if you don't know already. Please don't bring your computer down expecting someone to connect it for you, if you can help it. We will help you if necessary, of course, but we would prefer you learn to connect yourself if you can. b) Before you come down next season, please find or have someone help you find, your "Full computer name" - it is easily found in Windows by going to Control Panel, then System. If your computer name does not contain your last name, we prefer you change it so it does; otherwise we may be slow to authorize you to be online because we can't recognize your computer. Please have someone help you with this if you need to. c) If you intend to connect devices other than your computer, that may not have a "computer name," we will require the last four digits of your "MAC Address." Every device that connects to a "network" (such as our FV Wi-Fi network) must have an assigned MAC Address by law. Usually devices will show the MAC or "Hardware" address on a sticker attached to it or shipped with it. This address has six pairs of letters/numbers separated by dashes or colons. This address shows up on any network it is connected to, but if we can't tell who these belong to, your device may be blocked. The last four characters, and your name, are all we need to identify you as the owner.
Remember folks: these are things you need to learn about connecting your computer. We are teaching them in Computer Class, and you probably know someone who can help you find these things if you need to.
Discounts The Wi-Fi system can only function park-wide through the cooperation of generous owner-residents who host outdoor repeaters (antennas) mounted on their homes. To show our appreciation for these residents, and encourage others, we will offer the following discounts to people willing to host outdoor repeaters.
A. Any owner resident who hosts an outdoor Wi-Fi repeater (antenna), on their home, year-around, will receive a 50% discount on their Wi-Fi. Of course, we can only install these repeaters at house locations deemed critical to the Wi-Fi system.
B. Likewise, any owner resident who hosts an outdoor repeater for the "season" (at least six months) will receive a 25% discount. Again, this only applies if the house location is needed by the Wi-Fi system, or is already installed.
Any questions about either of these discounts should be sent by email to service@fvwi-fi.com. Keep in mind, the electricity consumption of these repeaters ranges from 2 to 7 watts (less than an ordinary nightlight) and should add only a few cents to the monthly light bill.
Email. Please folks, communicate with us by email as much as you can. This is a much better way to communicate your thoughts, concerns or needs than to use the telephone. It's also a great way to keep your current email address known.
Fiesta Village Free Email Addresses for any resident of Fiesta Village. Courtesy of the Wi-Fi system, any resident of Fiesta Village (it is not required to be a Wi-Fi subscriber) can be assigned a private, secure email address on the fiestavillagetx.com domain, e.g., yourname@fiestavillagetx.com. Contact us at service@fvwi-fi.com (or call us at 467-4554) to tell us what you would like your address to be, and we will set it up for you and show you how to use it. REMEMBER: This address will work anyplace in the world, not just at the Park.
